Welcome

Thank you for visiting my blog.  My thoughts in creating this blog is to post my steps through the process of dealing with my PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome). It has already been a very long process and struggle. Several years of not knowing what to do or where to turn.  Not really understanding this syndrome and all the new symptoms that were surfacing.

Several years ago (15+) I was told that I had several cysts on my ovaries after I had an Ultrasound because of a cyst that was rupturing.  I was not informed then that it was probably due to me having this syndrome.  There was no information just a pat on the back and a push out the door.  I was not even aware it was a syndrome and how my life was going to drastically change.

About 10 years ago I found that my menstruation, which was irregular since it started at the age of 17, were getting farther and farther apart.  I went to an OBGYN and he just put me on hormones to get it started no further test, nothing.  It did not seem to get any better and in fact seemed to make my moods worse and my menstruation was still not coming. I went back into the doctor and told him it wasn't working he told me there was nothing more he could do.  I started to develop other issues as well; facial hair which was becoming more and more severe (I was going in to get my chin and upper lip waxed and it was growing back in the next day), and weight gain (I had been thin all of my life even when I tried gaining a few pounds).  I found my self gaining weight fast even though I exercise quite a bit, and I seemed to have no energy no matter how active I tried to be.

Anyway, I finally found a doctor that diagnosed me with PCOS (about a year ago) even though I had thought for some time that I may have this issue I just didn't have any information about it.  She put me on Metformin and it did not have any effect.  She then put me on birth control to try and get my menstruation going (which at this point was a year and a half or more between cycles).  I did start having a menstruation, but it was still almost a year between them.  I had been having another issue for years that I, at the time, did not associate with PCOS.  I had been having a problem with digestion.  NO matter who saw me, no matter what they did to help, it just got worse and worse.

Not until recently did I find out that my digestion problems were associated with my PCOS.  I had tried to talk with my former doctor (the one who diagnosed me-- She was a family doctor) about my digestion but she was unable to help me.  The problem was getting more and more severe and I had made several trips to the hospital.  No one was able to tell me what was going on until recently finding more information on PCOS and finding other women who have had digestion issues with PCOS.  You don't know how relieved I was to know that there wasn't something seriously wrong.  I know I battle everyday with not being able to eat anything unless I am home or close to home, it's just nice knowing you're not alone and there may be things to do that may help.

Now that all of that is out of the way, I will be starting my journey towards recovery.  I am hoping to take steps towards getting fit and healthy, and, hopefully, adding to my family :) .. I have already started this process by ordering some information and supplements.  I will be documenting my progress and any information out there that I find useful. My hope in this is to see myself healthier and help as many as I can along the way.  Please join me in my fight and let me know how I am doing.  Feel free to ask me anything, if I can answer you I will. I need support and motivation in this and want to make a few friends along the way.
